Dr. Thomas Lee is a licensed dentist who attended UC Berkeley and earned his DDS at UC San Francisco. He worked in his private practice in the San Fernando Valley for 30 years, before leaving for a long-term mission to Rwanda in 2020. Lita Lee attended Pasadena City College, California State University, San Francisco and California State University, Northridge. She devoted her early life to being a wife, mom, and disciple of Christ and founded HHOA alongside her husband in 2017. Thomas and Lita have three grown children: Noelle (married to Harry), Nicholas and Nathan.
Starting HHOA
In 2013 Dr. Thomas and Lita Lee planned an African safari to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary and the 50th birthday for Thomas. They were excited about all they would see and do.
However, God had a very different idea.
In January of that year, Jean Claude Rwagasore, a founder of Best Family Rwanda, shared his testimony at the Garden Church, where the Lees also attended. He spoke of the unimaginable pain and suffering he experienced during the 1994 genocide in which an estimated one million Rwandans were killed while an estimated two million were displaced and became refugees. Amidst this tragedy, Best Family Rwanda became a haven for orphans and vulnerable children through Christ-centered ministry.
After hearing Jean Claude’s testimony, both Thomas and Lita individually felt that God had asked them to go and serve Him in Africa. Instead of a safari they joined their church for a short-term medical and dental mission trip to Rwanda. It was during this trip, as they treated and prayed for the patients, that they witnessed the tremendous lack of dental care and the suffering the people were experiencing. They both felt God calling them to be part of a bigger and long-term solution for those in Rwanda with no dental care.
Through this new direction, His Hands On Africa was born in 2017 to transform lives and share the hope and healing of Jesus Christ to the people of Rwanda.
In 2020 the Lees sold their home and dental practice in California. They now live full-time in Rwanda and oversee operations at His Hands On Africa.
