Clean Water Projects
Access to clean water is a critical challenge in providing quality oral health care in Rwanda. At His Hands On Africa, we know that safe water is essential for overall health and preventing conditions like dental fluorosis, which disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.
By addressing these basic needs, we advance our mission to bring hope, healing, and lasting change—empowering communities to thrive both physically and spiritually. Together, we can build a healthier, brighter future for Rwanda.
43%
that’s over 4 million people—lack access to safe, clean water near their homes.
General Health
Diseases such as bacterial diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever are prevalent due to unsafe drinking water.
Excess Flouride
in groundwater is a common issue, leading to dental fluorosis—a common condition in these communities, especially for children.
Dental Health
from dental fluorosis include weakened enamel, discoloration, decay, pain, and difficulty eating, which can lead to tooth loss and serious health issues.

"But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
-John 4:14
In rural Rwanda, access to safe water is a daily struggle. When we learned that villagers in the Bugesera District were drinking from the muddied Nyabarongo River, we were shocked. One local demonstrated the reality by drinking it, saying, “Yes, this is the water we have to drink to survive.”
We knew we had to act. Clean water is essential for health, and it’s also vital for oral hygiene—helping to protect teeth from plaque and acids.
In 2021, we completed our first water project in Nyarunazi, funded by one of our amazing supporters. The station now provides clean water to a
community of Genocide survivors, orphans, widows, and elders who once struggled to carry water long distances. For just 3-5 cents per container, the station is self-sustaining, covering staff, maintenance, and utility costs, ensuring long-term access for thousands.
In 2022, we expanded to Rugazi in the Eastern Province, serving 3,000 people across 510 families. The opening celebration was a joyous moment, full of singing and clapping. Since then, we’ve built additional wells in Karambi and Kageyo, bringing clean water to over 8,000 people.
As they gather water, we pray that they also encounter the living water—Jesus Christ. Through these wells, we’re offering not just water, but hope, health, and transformation.
